Hyundai Canada today has donated $100,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s Emergency Relief Fund. The funds will be used to provide support and essential services to youth across Canada who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While Clubs across the country have closed their doors to prevent the spread of the virus, the services provided by Boys and Girls Clubs remain essential for youth and their families. As of today, the emergency fund will be distributed to communities across the country to support a variety of initiatives, including:
- Care packages of essential items for local families
- Childcare for the children of emergency health workers
- Grocery store gift cards to provide food for families and Club employees
- Mental health and counselling services that are needed during this crisis
- Covering rent, infrastructure costs, and subsidised staff wages for Clubs that have lost funding, ensuring they can reopen in the future
- Other emergency needs as necessary
“Now more than ever, it’s crucial that we support all members of our local communities and ensure they have access to the resources they need,” says Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Canada. “We’re proud to contribute to the incredible work done by Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to help young people navigate through this difficult time.”
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada operates in 700 communities across the country, providing 200,000 children and youth with essential services including healthy meals, afterschool programs, mental health support, and learning and skills development.
“A huge thank you to Hyundai Canada for their generous donation to our emergency relief fund,” says Owen Charters, President & CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. “Our Clubs are on the frontlines doing everything they can to support vulnerable communities—this act of generosity will help them reach more young people and their families in these uncertain times.”
